About This Event
For this workshop, students are to design a home for their family. Being guided through the full design process, they'll use the Design Thinking methodology to understand and define the requirements and challenges of the people they're designing for.
Starting with space planning, they will learn the foundations of drafting a floor plan. They will start with sketching their ideas in 2D floor plans before transforming them into 3D models. Guided to think like an architect, they will need to consider how the rooms connect and flow, scale, light, ventilation, accessibility, views and garden areas and the clever use of sustainable materials in their home design.
They will develop model making skills to bring their ideas to life and build their very own home prototype that is catered to their own family's needs. At the end of the workshop, each student is to present their design to the class.
Learning Objectives
Children will be guided through a simple design process:
01 Observe
Observe and question the world around them and discover how people, objects and spaces work together. Identify a problem to solve and build empathy for others.
02 Ideate
Dream up possibilities, generate ideas and express their creativity.
03 Prototype
Discover form, shape, space, structure, materials and scale through hands-on play. Bring their idea to life by building models and use problem solving skills to see what works and how to improve it.
04 Present
Present their creations and communicate their ideas to build their confidence.

Venue: St George Creative Arts & Craft Centre, 23 St Georges Rd, Penshurst NSW 2222
Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm (including breaks)
Age: 12 - 16 years old
Fee: $390 or $400 ( for new members)
Price includes model making materials.
Children are to bring their own lunch, water & snacks.
Please note that all participants in this workshop will handle cutting tools.
